Mitoya is a classical example of a traditional thatched cottage or “kayabuki” in Japanese.
Located in a tranquil rural community with views of rice fields and mountains it’s an ideal place for people who want to cycle and hike in nature .The interior has earthen walls, tatami straw matts, futons and an “irori” or hearth where you can cook over charcoal and enjoy the glow of a real fire. The perfect contrast to the bright lights of Tokyo and the crowded tourist scene in Kyoto, Mitoya will give you a chance to see and feel the real Japan.

Meals

A simple self service breakfast is provided, this uses quality local ingredients such as Miyama milk, local bread, eggs, butter, Jam and cereal (not made locally).
Our cottages are in the deep countryside so there is nowhere nearby to buy food. Customers with a car can drive to the local markets to buy food, but we recommend you visit a shop and stock up before you come to Miyama. For visitors coming by train we can stop at a supermarket on the way from the train station to the cottage, our staff can help you find what you need.

We also provide sets of ingredients for a barbecue and other snacks, but these must be ordered at least 3 days before your arrive.

There are a number of options for eating out in Miyama but again there must be reserved in advance so please let us know your requirements well before you arrive.
